The Wethersfield Lady Geese defeated the Ridgewood Spartans Wednesday night 25-17, 25-17 in Putnam County Regional semifinal action.

With the win, the Lady Geese earned themselves a trip to Thursday night’s regional championship match where they’ll take on host Putnam County.

A familiar foe, Wethersfield beat Ridgewood (8-23) earlier the season, 25-12, 25-8.

“Ridgewood was much improved (since we last played them),” said longtime WHS Coach Tonya Vincent. “They have a tall front row, but we adjusted to their blocking and we kept our unforced errors down,” she added.

The Lady Geese, now 25-6-1 on the season, will face Putnam County that dons a record of 20-12-1 and was 7-2 in the Tri County Conference.

On Aug 21, WHS defeated Putnam County 25-18, 25-15.

“Putnam County has height and athleticism,” noted Coach Vincent. “We need to be ready defensively and come out early playing our style of hustle volleyball.”

If Wethersfield wins, they’ll advance to the Princeville Sectional semifinal match where they’ll play the winner of the Peoria Heights Regional. That will be either top-seeded Illini Bluffs (23-4-1) or the No. 5 seed Brimfield (16-14).
