Authorities are still looking for a man after he injured a Henry County Sheriff’s deputy during a traffic stop around midnight on Friday, Dec. 1.
James E. Lasenby, 21, was the passenger of a vehicle that was stopped by a Henry County Deputy on Route 78, just south of Annawan. During the stop, the deputy learned that an occupant, Lasenby, was wanted on a nationwide arrest warrant. When the deputy attempted to detain him, the vehicle sped away, causing minor injuries to the deputy.
Law enforcement pursued the vehicle, which according to a press release, “exhibited reckless disregard to the public” as it traveled south on Route 78 into Kewanee city limits. The vehicle then collided with another vehicle near the intersection of Tenney and Division streets. Before law enforcement arrived on the scene, the suspect had fled on foot.
The Kewanee Fire and Ambulance service arrived on the scene and occupants of both vehicles were taken to Saint Luke’s Medical Center for treatment. The Kewanee Police Department and other agencies assisted the HCSO.
The incident is still under investigation and anyone with information regarding the incident is being asked to contact the HCSO at (309) 937-3911. The public is in no immediate danger, according to a HCSO social media post.
Lasenby is being sought on an Indiana warrant for a probation violation for resisting arrest, and charges stemming from Friday’s incident including resisting/obstructing a police officer with injury, aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer, reckless driving, leaving the scene of a personal injury traffic crash and other pending charges.
The driver of the vehicle in which Lasenby was a passenger, Lovie Brown, 21, was arrested and charged with speeding, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, fleeing to elude police, improper lane usage, aggravated battery to police and obstructing justice.
