Moments on Second, a new luxury event venue at 117 W. Second St., is officially open after a year long delay, and is already drawing attention for its modern design and flexible layout.
The space, which has an occupancy of 300, is owned and operated by Taurean Bond, Lance Tossell and Chrissy Smith, all Kewanee natives.

Bond said the team shared a vision from the start to bring an upscale, sophisticated venue to their hometown. “We want to be a trusted place,” he said. “We will meet your needs and expectations.”
The venue was originally slated to open last August, but tariffs and plumbing issues pushed the timeline back. With construction complete, Moments on Second will host a major event in mid‑September and has already hosted events such as bridal and baby showers. The owners emphasize a focus on weddings and quinceañeras, though the space is designed to accommodate any kind of major event.

The building features a two‑level layout designed to give clients freedom to shape their event. The upstairs ceremony area flows directly into the cocktail‑hour space, while the downstairs level is reserved for receptions. “We are clean, modern and customizable,” said Bond. “We are here to be a resource to Kewanee and to provide more venue options.”

One of the venue’s standout features is its custom bar, built from trees cut and carved right inside the building and finished with epoxy resin. String lights fill the ceiling on both floors, creating a warm, formal atmosphere. Modern art, lighting and architectural details were intentionally placed to elevate the space’s overall aesthetic.

Bond has also repurposed elements from previous businesses in the building. An old office area from the former furniture store now serves as a functional counter area, complete with an L‑shaped counter, offering ample outlets and a loading dock door conveniently located directly behind it.
While the venue does not have a kitchen, Moments on Second has a direct partnership with Downtown Eatery and Bakery which offers catering to the venue. Clients are also welcome to bring in their own food or hire outside catering.

Bond said the team’s roots in Kewanee shape the experience they want to offer. “We are all Kewanee natives, so you get a local touch involved,” he said.
