
Photographs by two Kewanee residents were awarded prizes in the annual Starved Rock Photography Show. The show features photographs designed to capture landscapes, parks and wildlife of North America.
Irena Adamonis of Kewanee received second place for her photo “Morning Light” in the North American Flowers, Plants, Trees, Fungi and Lichens Category. She also received second place for her photo “Kicking Horse River” in the North American Bodies of Water including Waterfalls and Icefalls Category.
Dr. Remi Satkauskas of Kewanee was awarded third place for his photo “Morning Glory over Bad Water Basin” in the North American Landscapes and Parks Category.

An award ceremony and reception was held at the Starved Rock Visitor Center in Oglesby on Saturday Jan. 4 to honor the winners of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Photo Contest. Prizes were awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for each category, including a Best of Show.
All photographs were judged by professional photographers form the IDNR, Starved Rock Lodge and the Starved Rock Foundation using the following criteria: Impact, Creativity, Technical Excellence, Composition, Subject Matter and Composition.
Thirty-three photographers entered this year’s contest and each participant was allowed to submit two photos. The entries were displayed in the Kaskaskia Room of the Visitor Center from Dec. 7, 2024 to Jan. 4, 2025.
