On Monday, the Annawan-Wethersfield junior varsity baseball team faced the Storm of Bureau Valley and came out on top in both games. 

The Storm were the first to get on the board in the first of game one when Wyatt Smith doubled, scoring one run.

The Titans jumped into the lead in the bottom of the second inning after Mason Mallery singled to left field, and Jace Nichols singled down the left field line, each scoring one run.

The Titans added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Cole Dynes singled up the middle, Victor Skaggs grounded out, London Sain singled down the left field line, Mallery doubled to center field, and Baylor Frankenreider singled down the left field line, each scoring one run.

The Titans won the first game 10-5.

Skaggs stepped on the hill first for the Titans. The starter allowed seven hits and four runs (one earned) over four innings, striking out five and walking one.

The Titans piled up 13 hits in the game. Skaggs led the Titans with three runs batted in. The pitcher went 1-for-3 on the day. Isaiah Cornish led the Titans with three hits in three at bats.

In game two, the Titans snatched the lead late in their 9-8 victory over the Storm. The game was tied at eight in the bottom of the fourth when Liam Cookson induced Dynes to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored.

The Titans got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Jaxson Dunn grounded out, scoring one run, and Jaton Huber singled, scoring two runs.

The Storm flipped the game on its head in the top of the third, scoring six runs on two hits to take the lead, 8-3. The biggest blow in the inning was a line out by Carson Michlig that drove in two.

But not to worry, the Titans came back to win despite trailing 8-3.

The Titans jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning after Dunn grounded out, and Dynes grounded into a fielder’s choice, each scoring one run.

Huber led things off on the bump for the Titans. The hurler surrendered one hit and two runs over two innings, striking out three and walking four.

Finally, after a tied eighth inning, the Titans managed to pull through and end up on top with a final score of 9-8.
