Annawan-Wethersfield used a big-play offense Friday night to knock Farmington from the ranks of the undefeated, 33-15.
Long runs by Zeb Rashid and Dillon Horrie, and a defense that shut down the Farmington offense after their two early touchdowns, improved the Titans to 6-1 on the season, with games at ROWVA-Williamsfield and at home against Princeville still to play.
The Titans took a 7-0 lead on the first possession of the game, putting together a 13-play drive that ended with a one-yard plunge by Rashid. The highlight of the drive was a 47-yard pass play from Horrie to Colin Hornback.
Farmington answered with a scoring drive that started at their 7. Led by the passing and running of quarterback Lane Wheelwright, the Farmers drove to A-W’s 22. There, Wheelwright hit Jack Gronewald for a touchdown, and a two-point conversion made it 8-7 Farmers.
Farmington added to their lead on a scoring drive of just four plays to start the second quarter. Wheelwright ran 11 yards for the go-ahead score.
The Titans pulled to within 15-13 on another one-yard touchdown run by Rashid. They took the lead for good later in the second quarter.
Wth the ball at the A-W 33, Horrie took off around right end and continued all the way to the end zone for a 67-yard score. That made it 19-15 Titans at the half.
In the third quarter, Rashid contributed a long TD run of his own, scoring from 57 yards out on a sweep around the left side.
Annawan-Wethersfield added a final touchdown in the fourth quarter when Hornback got behind the Farmers defense and Horrie hit him for a 29-yard score.
