The Annawan/Wethersfield Titans dominated both varsity and junior varsity matchups against the Fulton Steamers on Monday, with the varsity team securing a 4-1 victory and the JV squad cruising to a 13-1 win.
Varsity: Titans Secure 4-1 Win Over Fulton
The varsity Titans claimed a 4-1 victory over Fulton, capitalizing on early scoring and a strong pitching performance.
The Titans got on the board in the first when a wild pitch allowed a run to score. In the second, Maddux Heitzler extended the lead with an RBI single. Koeyn DeClercq added another run in the third with a groundout, making it 3-0.
DeClercq was dominant on the mound, allowing just one hit and one run over six innings while striking out nine and walking one. Heitzler closed the game in relief, pitching a scoreless inning with one strikeout.
Fulton’s Braedon Meyers took the loss, surrendering four hits and three runs over two innings.
Heitzler led the Titans’ offense with three hits in four at-bats, while Kellan Keane added two hits. The Titans showed patience at the plate, drawing six walks, and aggressive baserunning helped them steal six bases. The defense was flawless, committing no errors, with Nic Thurston leading with 11 fielding chances.
Braeden Brennan provided the Steamers’ only RBI, going 1-for-3 at the plate.
Junior varsity: Jaton Huber leads 13-1 rout
Jaton Huber powered Annawan/Wethersfield’s junior varsity Titans to a commanding 13-1 victory over Fulton, driving in six runs with a pair of hits. Huber doubled in the first to bring in two runs and singled in the second to add two more.
The Titans blew the game open with a seven-run third inning. Cole Dynes hit a two-run double, an error brought in another run, Baylor Frankenreider drew a bases-loaded walk, Myer Heitzler doubled in another run, and two additional runs scored on errors.
Heitzler started on the mound, allowing two hits and one run over two innings while striking out two. Aaden Verstraete and Dane Ross pitched in relief, shutting down Fulton.
The Titans racked up nine hits, with Huber, Heitzler, and Pierce Childs collecting two each. Frankenreider drew three walks as the team worked six total walks. Nathan Harker stole two bases, contributing to the team’s seven stolen bases. Defensively, the Titans played a perfect game with no errors.
For Fulton JV, Hudson Price had the team’s lone RBI, finishing 1-for-1. Griffen Mangelsen, Evan McWilliams and Price each had one hit.
