On Monday, April 6, the varsity Annawan-Wethersfield Titans baseball team traveled to Henry-Senachwine and came away with an 8-6 win.
The game opened with the Titans at the plate. Nic Thurston got things going with a solid single, but the momentum didn’t last long, as the inning ended before he could advance.
With the score tied 0-0, sophomore pitcher Myer Heitzler stepped onto the mound to start the bottom of the first. The Mallards came out strong, putting pressure on early and scoring four runs to take a quick 4-0 lead.
But the Titans didn’t back down.
They responded in a big way, rallying together to score five runs and take a 5-4 lead. Just like that, the energy of the game shifted.
The Titans held onto their slim lead through the next couple of innings. In the fourth, they added another run to extend their advantage to 6-4, while their defense kept the Mallards from gaining ground.
In the sixth inning, the Titans created some breathing room by scoring two more runs, putting the score at 8-4.
The Mallards made a late push, but it wasn’t enough.
When the final out was recorded, the Titans secured an 8-6 victory.
