
Sterling Newman blew a close game wide open in the late innings Wednesday, as the Comets beat the Annawan-Wethersfield Titans 10-2 at Howes Park in Annawan.
The score was tied 1-1 after four innings, but Newman hung a four-spot on the Titans in the top if the fifth, and added two more in the sixth to make it 6-1.
A-W scored their final run run in the bottom of the sixth, but the Coments plated three more times in the seventh to seal the win.
Zeb Rashid recorded the only RBI of the game for the Titans. His double was the only extra-base hit for the home team.
Colin Hornback started on the mound for the Titans, and gave up just one run in his two and a third innings of work. Koeyn DeClercq, Rashid and Maddux Heitzler also pitched, and they gave up three runs apiece.
The loss puts the Titans at 14-6-1 on the season.
