Crime continues to make headlines in Kewanee, from police arrests and investigations to blotter reports of property damage and drug-related arrests. Each story underscores a reality that residents know well, safety is a cornerstone of community life, and when it’s shaken, people notice.

In The Kewanee Voice’s recent Quality of Life Survey, crime and public safety ranked among the top issues residents said most affect their daily experience. Many respondents described feeling safe during the day but less secure at night, while others pointed to youth-related crime and drug activity as growing concerns.

Take the survey: Kewanee Community Safety & Crime Perception Survey

To better understand those perceptions, The Kewanee Voice is launching a new Community Safety & Crime Perception Survey. The goal is to give residents a voice in shaping local conversations about safety, not just through headlines, but through firsthand experiences.

Responses will help identify patterns, highlight areas of concern, and inform future reporting and community initiatives aimed at making Kewanee a safer, more connected place to live.
