During the meeting board members discussed a letter from a parent asking if they would consider co-opting soccer with Kewanee High School which has a team. The parent said two Wethersfield High School students are currently on a traveling soccer team and three more students might be interested in participating in a co-op.
Board members were tentatively open to the idea but suggested that the parent also send a letter to the Kewanee School Board with her proposal. Superintendent Dr. Andrew Brooks also said he would contact Wethersfield’s co-op partner, Annawan, to make sure that there was no interest in adding soccer to their agreement.
The board also approved the FY2025 budget which showed positive balances in all major funds including education; operations, building and maintenance; and transportation, with an ending balance in all funds of $6,575,137. The fiscal year begins July 1 and runs through June 30, 2026.
The board approved a quote of $13,122 from Correct Digital Displays for installing shot clocks in the high school and junior gyms. In 2026-2027, the IHSA plans on bringing the shot clocks that are used in the NBA and NCAA to high school basketball games. The clocks are not required on the junior high level but some high school games in Wethersfield’s Wally Keller Tournament are played in the junior high gym where the clock will be required.
The board also approved a quote of $23,437 from Consolidated Construction Group for tuck pointing the chimney and removing and replacing the concrete steps to the west entrance, both at the Blish Building.
