The hours of the Baker Park 19th Hole restaurant could change after Sunday, according to Parks Executive Director Andrew Dwyer. Closing down the kitchen might be the last resort.

The restaurant has been short-staffed for months now and the park district has put out a call for staff, especially cooks. But this week, Dwyer received word that the restaurant’s head cook will be leaving at the end of this week. The departure is a result of health issues, he said.

The 19th Hole has two other cooks-one full-time and one part-time, but the remaining full-time cook is currently on leave. That means only one part-time cook will be available, leaving the park district with few options.

Earlier this week, the restaurant closed down for a day, but has now reopened with limited hours. An announcement was made on Tuesday regarding the restaurant’s July 12 closure.

The 19th Hole will still be open for golf and beer sales and for league play. The kitchen will be open at 2 pm but updates will be provided should hours of operation need to be adjusted.

Dwyer said the hours of the 19th Hole and whether they will be able to open under regular hours in the near future isn’t clear. In spite of the latest setback, Dwyer said he is hopeful that they will be able to hire enough personnel to finish off the season.

The restaurant’s kitchen is open yearly from spring through early autumn.
