Did you scream your lungs out on the carnival rides? March proudly in the parade? Or cross the Hog Jog finish line with a sweaty smile? Whatever your favorite Kewanee Hog Days memory is—sweet, silly, or sentimental—The Kewanee Voice wants to hear it.
The Voice is now accepting submissions for its special Hog Days edition of The Hog Herald, and your story could be featured in the August print issue.
“Whether it’s a memory of riding carnival rides with your friends or attending the parade or running the Hog Jog, we want to read it,” said Susan DeVilder, managing editor of The Kewanee Voice.
If you’d like to be part of this new tradition, submit a memory (just one to three paragraphs) via email to news@kewaneevoice.com with the subject line Hog Day Memory. Don’t forget to include your name and current hometown, or it won’t be considered. You can also send it by mail to: The Kewanee Voice, P.O. Box 77, Kewanee.
Deadline for submissions is Monday, July 14.
Selected memories will be sprinkled throughout The Hog Herald, available at selected businesses the week before Hog Days and at the Hog Days building and pork chop tent during the festival.
DeVilder added, “We would love to include our readers’ memories in this edition. It would make this publication even more special for us.”
So, take a trot down memory lane and help make this year’s Hog Herald a tribute to all the fun, flavor and festivity that makes Hog Days unforgettable.
