The Summer Reading Program will be wrapping up July 13, so patrons are reminded to get any last-minute reading logged and stop in to pick up any prizes.

Digital Skills Class – Wednesdays at 4:30 p.m. 

The library has partnered with the Illinois Broadband Lab, Lead for America, and Americorps to bring patrons free skill-building classes on Wednesdays.  The available topics are Essential Computer Skills, which would be basic computer skills, Essential Software Skills, or office productivity skills, and Technology Tools in Daily Life, which will teach you practical computer skills.  

No registration is required to attend the classes; simply stop in July  24 from 4:30 to 6 p.m.  For further information, contact the instructor, Grace Clucas, at graceclucas@gmail.com or (309) 678-2979.

Youth Programming

Babies to Pre-K aged children are invited to join the youth staff for songs, action rhymes, stories and games, during Storytime.  Throughout the summer reading program, there will be two Storytimes each week, one on Tuesdays and one on Wednesdays, with both at 11:15 a.m.  

On July 16 the schedule will change to one each week, Tuesdays at 11:15 a.m. This session will run through July 30. Storytime may be held on the front lawn if weather permits.  Participants may help decorate the sidewalk during a sidewalk chalk creativity session.

One in-house craft is left before Summer Reading ends, and before staff takes a break to get ready for the upcoming school year. For elementary age patrons, there will be a painted starfish craft on July 10-12 from 2 to 6 p.m. and July 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  

Young Adult Programming

The Young Adult group will have a final in-house craft and grab and go to close out Summer Reading.  Throughout July, stop in to pick up an ocean sticker acrylic bookmark grab and go kit.  And stop in to make alcohol ink coasters July 17 at noon. There will also be one remaining meeting of the Photography Club July 12at 3:30 p.m.

Adult Book Club – Monday, July 15 at 2 and 6 p.m.

The next meeting date of the Adult Book Club is July 15. The Cartographers by Peng Shepherd will be discussed.  Meetings will be at 2 and 6 p.m.; may attend either meeting.  Participants should come in through the First Street entrance. Copies of the book are available for checkout at the information services desk on the lower level.  

Henry County Genealogical Society

The Henry County Genealogical Society meets on the fourth Monday of each month at 1:30 p.m. in the library’s Community Room. 

The next meeting is July 22.  Amie Henneman Callahan will be here to tell attendees about the Children of the American Revolution.
