The Kewanee High School girls bowling team had their first tournament of the 2024-2025 season on Saturday.

The Rock Island Invitational Tournament occurred in Moline at Highland Park Lanes.

Ten competitors represented Kewanee at the competition. Varsity placed 11th and JV placed eighth of the schools competing in the tournament divisions.

Kristina Armstrong led the varsity team with a six-game pin total of 1021, followed by Sofia Sotelo with a 1015.

Jasmine Burhans led the JV team with a six-game total of 502, followed by Kadynce Closen with a 470.

For many of the KHS bowlers, this was their first time ever bowling competitively.

New head coach, Katie Gerard and assistant Coach Dave Armstrong both enjoyed the day of coaching players throughout the competition.

The bowling team is made up of 17 girls with many being first-time bowlers.  Returning bowlers include seniors Kristina Armstrong, Jasmine Burhans and Jasmine Heald; juniors Jazmen Moran, Kristina Quanstrom and Riley McClimans; and sophomores Alyssa Manella and Bianica Haderly.

“The coaches and players are looking forward to a year of growth, fun, and representing Kewanee to the best of their abilities,” said Coach Gerard.
