It took just 12 hours for the Kewanee School District employees and Oldeen Roofing to patch the Kewanee High School and Central School roofs after the July 15 tornadoes.
It’s taking much longer than that to determine what repairs the roofs will need, and who will pay for them.

At Monday’s school board meeting, Supt. Rebecca Baney reported on negotiations that have been going on with the district’s insurance company and the company that installed solar panels on the roof over the high school’s Brockman Gym. That roof was damaged when the wind blew some of the solar panels off.
Baney said the district’s architects are preparing specifications for the repair work. She was to meet with the architects Wednesday, and hopes to have information on seeking bids for the work ready for the October board meeting.
