Landon Sauer moved into 15th place on Wethersfield High School’s list of career scoring leaders in a big way Monday night, scoring 30 to lead the Flying Geese to a 63-48 win over LaMoille in a first-round game of the Class 1A regional.

Sauer scored eight of his team’s points as the Geese took a 13-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. He added seven more in the second quarter as the Geese scored 19 and led 32-24 at the half.

He finished strong, with 11 fourth-quarter points. This included making six of the nine free throws he shot in the quarter.

Zeb Rashid and Colin Hornback each chipped in 12 points for the Geese .

Brayden Klein and Tyler Billhorn led LaMoille with 17 and 16 points, respectively.

Sauer, now with 1,168 points, passed Barry Zonkel to move into 15th place on the school’s career scoring list. With at least one more game to play, he’s within striking distance of No. 14 scorer James Reed, who totaled 1,172 points; Rick Scott, whose 1,180 career points put him in 13th place; and Tony Ince, in 12th place with 1,195 points.
