A garbage truck driver escaped serious injury after an accident Tuesday morning south of Kewanee.

According to Ellis Ericson, chief of the Kewanee Community Fire Department, the driver was traveling north on Route 78 near its intersection with Route 34 when the crash occurred. Ericson said the driver attempted to turn north onto Routes 34 and 78 to make several scheduled stops in Kewanee.

The driver was unable to complete the turn, causing the truck to roll onto its side. He was transported to OSF Saint Luke Medical Center, where Ericson confirmed he was not seriously injured.
