Kyden Jones collected three hits in three at bats, as the Kewanee Riveters defeated Newman Central Catholic 15-5 on Monday in Sterling. 

Jones singled in the second, third and fourth innings.

Kewanee  got on the board in the top of the first when Newman Central Catholic Junior Varsity Comets committed an error, Reid Nichols doubled down the left field line, Camden Cernovich walked, and Quintin Weir singled down the right field line, each scoring one run.

Kewanee added a run in the second when Walker Colomer flew out.

Newman tied the game in the bottom of the second thanks to a single by Landon Blanton, and a double by Ryan Dean.

Kewanee captured the lead, 8-5, in the top of the third when Cernovich singled to left field, Weir grounded out, and Jones singled to right field, each scoring one run.

Kewanee  scored seven runs on three hits in the top of the fourth. An error scored two runs, Jones singled, scoring one run, Nichols drew a walk, scoring one run, Easton Blake singled, scoring one run, and Adam Yepsen grounded out, scoring two runs.

Lincoln Throneburg led things off on the hill for Kewanee. The starter gave up four hits and five runs (four earned) over three innings, striking out two and walking four. 

Augie Downs began the game for Newman and gave up nine hits and eight runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking eight. Nichols tossed one inning of no-run ball for Kewanee  in relief. He gave up two hits, striking out two and walking none.

Kewanee  piled up 13 hits in the game. Weir led Kewanee  with four runs batted in from the number nine spot in the lineup. The right fielder went 1-for-3 on the day. 

Blake collected two hits for Kewanee in four at bats. Throneburg led Kewanee  with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up 12 walks for the game. 

Throneburg, Blake, Jones, Jeremiah Reynolds, Yepsen, and Colomer each stole multiple bases for Kewanee. Kewanee  stole 22 bases in the game.

Kewanee  welcome the Geneseo Maple Leaves on Tuesday for their next game.
