Artists, vendors and visitors didn’t let a little rain get in the way of the Prairie Chicken Arts Festival.
A downpour Saturday morning washed away the artwork created the day before on the former go-kart track in downtown Kewanee.
The rain also led the Kewanee firefighters and police officers to close their Guns and Hoses pancake breakfast early.
But by Saturday afternoon the sun was out and chalk artists were back at work on new creations.
People were examining the wares offered at stands along Tremont Street and lining up for food from vendors near Berrien Park.
The rain had made it impossible for kids to play on the giant sandpile in the city parking lot at Third and Tremont streets.
On Friday, before the rain came, chalk art works were judged.
Winners were:
Liyah York, first place amateur
Nora Yaklich and Scarlett Morey, first place for youth 11-13
Autumn Zaehringer, first place professional
Emma :Larson, second place professional
Tim Bryner, third place professional
