pet of the week

If you’ve been searching for a loyal friend with a smile that will brighten your days, swing by the Kewanee Animal Shelter and meet Tia, a 36-pound shepherd mix.

At just a year and a half old, she’s still learning the ropes, but she approaches training with enthusiasm and picks up new commands quickly. She’s already mastered “sit” and is eager to show off her progress.

Tia greets every visitor like a long-lost buddy. She’s fearless, friendly and absolutely convinced that strangers are just friends she hasn’t met yet. One of her favorite hobbies is climbing into employees’ laps, all 36 pounds of her, and soaking up every bit of attention she can get.

She’s also a toy enthusiast with a spirited chewing style, so not every toy survives her play sessions. Tia loves romping in the snow but isn’t a fan of the cold that comes with it. She hasn’t had much leash experience, but on her short walks with staff she’s shown she’s not a puller. She’s gentle and kid-friendly, though she hasn’t been tested around other animals yet.

Tia is scheduled soon for her full vetting, including spaying, rabies vaccination, microchipping and a heartworm test. She has already been dewormed and flea treated.

If you’re looking for an energetic, outgoing companion who will happily claim your lap as her own, Tia might be your perfect match. Stop by the shelter and she’ll probably be in your lap before you even sit down. Her adoption fee is $100.
