Dougie is available for adoption at the Kewanee Animal Shelter.

Meet Dougie, the newest member of the shelter — a six‑month‑old husky‑rottweiler mix with perhaps a touch of cane corso in his lineage.

This handsome brindle pup arrived about a week ago after being transferred from the city pound. He was brought there by Kewanee police after being found wandering near Kewanee High School. After completing his mandated hold time, Dougie made his way to the shelter, where he’s now waiting for his forever home.

At 29.5 pounds, this charming, good‑natured youngster is full of energy. He loves long walks and a good game of fetch — though he’s still working on the “bring it back” part. Other dogs don’t seem to bother him, but his curious nature means he likes to get up close and personal when they’re outside together.

When things slow down at the shelter, Dougie happily transforms into a lap dog, soaking up every bit of attention he can get. During busier times, he’s focused on learning new tricks — he’s already mastered “sit,” takes treats gently from your hand and is figuring out that jumping on people isn’t allowed.

Dougie hasn’t been fully vetted yet, but he has an upcoming appointment for his rabies vaccination, heartworm test, microchip and neutering. He’s already been flea‑treated.

A perfect home for Dougie would include a big yard where he can run off all that puppy energy. If you have patience and a little extra time, stop by the shelter during visiting hours or call 309‑852‑0040 to meet this lively, lovable pup. His adoption fee is $100.
