
The lure of the weekend beckons us promising days off from work and time on our hands to do as we please. If you’re like me it begins its seductive powers on Sunday night leaving me already dreaming of the approaching weekend five days away.
So for those looking for something to do other than catching up on house and yard work or vegging out in front of the TV check out our new regular feature Out & About this weekend, which will be published every Friday and act as a handy guide for planning your weekend.
Here’s what happening this weekend:
Saturday, Aug. 16
Bishop Hill Honor Flight Benefit at The Filling Station in Bishop Hill
This breakfast buffet featuring; eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, fruit, coffee and juice and will run from 7 a.m to 2 p.m. with a goodwill offering of $15 or more.
The Knights of Columbus will also be on hand serving pancakes. For more information on this event, call 309-927-3355.
For the politically minded there will be a demonstration planned from 7-8:30 p.m. for the Fight Fascism Abolish ICE protest. This will be a peaceful demonstration held on the corner of Second and Main streets in Kewanee. Unhappy with the current administration, then take a stand and join the like-minded folks working to save our democracy.
Sunday, Aug. 17
Frank H. Craig Trophy Show & Sale is set for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Wethersfield High School gym. A large collection of WHS trophies will be on display and available for purchase.
Photo Props with Thomas the Train from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the Discovery Depot Children’s Museum in Galesburg located at 128 S. Chambers St. Admission is free.
Bingo at St. Peter’s Evangelical Church will be from 2 – 4 p.m. located at 119 S. Grove St. in Kewanee. Participants must be 18 to participate. I.D. is required. There will be free popcorn along with snacks that are available for purchase.
