This weekend will once again provide the area with many opportunities for seasonal fun and entertainment, featuring music, trunk or treating, sports and even tours of the Woodland Palace.

On Friday evening the Kewanee Boilers will take to their home field in their final football game of the season. This has been a trying fall for the Boilermakers and I’d like to recognize them for their determination and commitment to their school, community and team members. When faced with disappointment and adversity many just walk away. They’ve stuck it out and faced each morning with the attitude of, “I will try again today.” That, my friend, shows a real strength of character, fortitude and integrity.

The Annawan/Wethersfield Titans continue to dominate and thrill and their place in the State Football play offs is a sure thing. This talented and undefeated team will be playing South Fulton Athletics on the Astoria Field at 7 p.m. The Galva Wildcats will travel West Prairie in a match up with West Prairie/Southeastern at 7 p.m.

The weather forecast for Saturday looks to be great, so head out to Francis Park for guided tours of Woodland Palace from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Woodland Palace is the unique home of the inventive Fred Francis. While you are there, enjoy free popcorn, check out their guest tent that will feature T-shirts and the book, “Prairie State Genius” by Larry Kuster and more importantly make a donation to the home’s restoration.

Saturday also features Halloween family fun with Good’s Spooktacular Trunk or Treating event that was moved from last week’s Enchanted Pumpkin Festival to this Saturday. Good’s parking lot will have numerous decorated vehicles handing out candy to trick or treaters.
