Weather permitting there will be a lot of opportunities for fun and entertainment this weekend.
Friday evening will see the debut of the movie Fairyland at 7 p.m. at the Wanee Theater with 3 and 7 p.m. showings on Saturday and Sunday. Fairyland is a poignant coming-of-age film based on the book Fairyland: A memoir of my father by Alysia Abbott. The book and movie explore Abbott’s relationship with her father. Abbott is the granddaughter of the late Dr. Paul Binder, a well-known Kewanee radiologist, and his wife Ann.
Also on Friday the Galva Wildcats will be playing at home at 6 p.m. and the Titans will travel to Oneida. The Kewanee Boilermakers have the night off but will take the field in Sterling on Saturday at 7 p.m. against Newman Central Catholic.
Saturday looks to be full of activities with the Fourth Annual Kewanee Enchanted Pumpkin Festival from noon–4 p.m. The event will feature vendors, tarot card readings and the Cutest Pup-Kin Contest.
For those fed up with the current administration, join the peaceful “No Kings” demonstration taking place from 11a.m to 1:30 p.m. on the corner of Main and Second Streets in Kewanee.
Whether you’re catching a movie, cheering from the bleachers or browsing pumpkin-themed booths, keep an eye on the forecast and Facebook for updates. With a little luck, the weather will cooperate and the weekend will unfold as planned.
