A new tanning facility will open Dec. 2 in a historic Kewanee building at 427 W. Second St.

Owner Anthony Swed said five tanning beds are available. The fee is $5 per session; monthly passes are also available.

Tanning businesses in Illinois are under state regulations stating that people must be at least 18 to use a tanning bed.

The regulations also limit the amount of time one can spend in a tanning bed.

The tanning business will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The tanning bed is in the same building with the Kewanee Warehouse gym and a beauty salon.

Swed said the building’s history goes back at least to 1924, when an auto sales building was established there. Before that, there was a planing business on the site that burned down.
