A man was jailed Friday on attempted murder and aggravated domestic battery charges after a report of a stabbing.

A news release from Geneseo Police Chief Casey Disterhoft said Ilir Ilemi, 31, was arrested.

The news release said police received a 9-1-1 call early Friday morning “indicating there was a stabbing outside of 100 Bestor Drive with a female victim and a male suspect.”

Geneseo police and Henry County Sheriff’s deputies responded and found a female victim. She was treated on the scene by Geneseo EMS and taken to an “area hospital,” the news release said.

Officers learned where the suspect had gone on foot, found him and were able to “take him into custody without incident,” the news release said.

Ilemi was also taken to the hospital for previous medical issues, and after he was released he was interviewed by Geneseo Police Department investigators before being taken to jail.

The news release said there is an “on-going investigation” of the incident, and anyone with information on the case can call Geneseo police at 309-944-5141.
