The public is invited to learn more about Black Hawk College, including the East Campus, and meet Dr. Jeremy Thomas, the Black Hawk College president, on Tuesday, March 26.

The League of Women Voters of the Kewanee Area is hosting the meeting from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Kewanee Public Library. After a short presentation, the audience will be able to ask questions. Refreshments will be served.

Dr. Thomas came to Black Hawk College last year with more than 25 years of experience in higher education. He has previously served at colleges and universities in Oklahoma, Texas, and Louisiana.

While at Oklahoma City Community College, he transformed all areas of the college and increased student success. As a direct result of his leadership and initiatives, OCCC experienced its first surge in enrollment in more than five years and was one of just two colleges or universities in Oklahoma to see a year-over-year increase in enrollment amid the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020-2021.

In his current position as president of Black Hawk College, Dr. Thomas supervises a talented and diverse group of faculty and staff on two campuses and three community outreach centers.

Dr. Thomas has been a keynote speaker and presenter at numerous state, national, and international conferences, and has offered testimony before Oklahoma and Texas legislative bodies on a variety of higher education issues. He serves on several boards, committees, and civic organizations.

The League of Women Voters, a non-partisan political organization, encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government, works to increase the understanding of major public policy issues and to influence public policy through education and advocacy.
