
Both local high school football teams warmed up for the 2024 season with scrimmages Friday.
The Kewanee Boilermakers opened their season with two intrasquad scrimmages, for frosh-soph and varsity.
The Boilers’ regular-season opener is Friday at Kewanee Stadium. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. versus the Erie-Prophetstown Panthers. The gates will open at 6.
On the south side, the Annawan-Wethersfield Titans hosted Sherrard for a joint scrimmage featuring the varsity and frosh-soph teams.
Each team ran 48 plays, with starters and backup players seeing action.
A highlight of the evening for the Titans was a long touchdown run by all-state running back Zeb Rashid.
The Titans’ season kicks off Friday with a game at Wethersfield Memorial Stadium against South Fulton.
