
A penalty kick with three seconds left in the game gave Kewanee High School’s soccer team a 5-4 win over visiting Peoria High Wednesday.
Led by Isidro Martinez’s second hat trick in the last two games, the Boilers took a 4-3 lead with a minute left on the clock.
But a foul was called on Kewanee and Peoria tied the score with less than a minute left in the game.
Then, with three seconds to go, a Peoria player touched the ball with his hand and the referee called a penalty. Alex Barron scored on the penalty kick to give the host team the win.
Martinez scored three goals for the Boilers, and Alan Saucedo also scored.
Saucedo had two assists in the game and Kingston Peterson had one.
Goalie Gustavo Bermudez recorded six saves, and Kewanee had 15 shots in the game.
The junior varsity game ended in a 0-0 tie.
