The Wethersfield Lady Geese used a big third quarter comeback Saturday to claim bragging rights at the Cliff Warkins Memorial Classic in Prophetstown.

After being down 10 points at the half, Wethersfield outscored Lena-Winslow 18-3 in the pivotal third quarter and went on to win the title game, 49-46.

Senior forward Kennady Anderson scored a game-high 19 points and was named the tournaments’ most valuable player.

The Lady Geese got off to a sluggish start and found themselves down 11-3 in the opening quarter.

Wethersfield had a better second quarter but was outscored 15-13 and down 26-16 at the break. Lajaya Angel scored eight points in the second quarter and Kennady Anderson had six points at the half.

Grace Grozinger led Lena-Winslow’s first half push with 10 points and Rachael Settenstrom added nine.

Anderson scored 12 of Wethersfield’s 18 third quarter points as the Lady Geese held a 34-29 lead heading into the final quarter.

Lena-Winslow outscored the Lady Geese 17-15 in the final eight minutes of play, but Wethersfield scored just enough to gut out the 49-46 win.

WHS freshman point guard Lana Scott scored nine of her 15 points in the fourth quarter to help the Lady Geese keep pace.

Kennady Anderson went 8-12 at the free throw line enroute to scoring 19 points. Lajaya Angel added 14 points in the win.

Wethersfield is riding an 11-game win streak and is 14-2 on the season, while Lena-Winslow is 14-5.
