The Wethersfield Lady Geese defeated Monmouth-Roseville Friday night, 42-35, in the semifinals of the Cliff Warkins Memorial Classic.

With the win, Wethersfield (13-2) advances to the championship game where they’ll face Lena-Winslow (14-4) Sat at 6 pm. Both teams are 3-0 in tourney play.

The path to the title game for the Lady Geese came after wins against Rockridge (50-32), Stockton (46-37) and Monmouth-Roseville (42-35).

Lena-Winslow recorded wins over Orion (37-18), Morrison (45-39) and Mercer County (40-35) to advance to the championship game.

Monmouth-Roseville

After the first quarter of play, the Lady Geese held a slim 11-10 lead, but Wethersfield was able to put some distance between themselves and the Titans by holding Mon-Rose to just four second quarter points (11-4).

The Lady Geese had a halftime lead of 22-14.

Wethersfield juniors Kendall Vincent and Lajaya Angel each scored six points in the opening half.

The eight point lead proved pivotal as Mon-Rose outscored Wethersfield 21-20 in the second half of play.

Kennady Anderson scored 14 of her 17 points in the second half. In the fourth quarter, Anderson connected on 6 of 8 free throw attempts to help seal the Wethersfield win.

Brianna Woodard put up 16 of her game-high 20 points in the final two quarters.

The Lady Geese improve to 13-2 on the season and the Titans are 10-8.
