
The Wethersfield girls basketball team’s hot streak continues after the Lady Geese beat LTC foe, Knoxville, by a score of 50-38 Monday night at Knoxville.
The streak is now 14 games and dates back to Nov. 30 with their win over Monmouth-Roseville.
Neither team was able to gain much daylight throughout the first half, playing to tie at 20 apiece at the break.
Wethersfield came out strong after halftime and outscored the Blue Bullets 30-18 in the second half (19-11 and 11-7) to get the 50-38 conference win.
Lajaya Angel scored 12 points during the first three quarters of play and made 4 of 6 free throws in the final quarter to round out her game-high 16-point effort.
Lana Scott, Paige Huffman and Kennady Anderson each scored eight points for the 17-2 Lady Geese. With the win, Wethersfield moves to 5-1 in the hotly contested LTC race.
Knoxville falls to 6-9 overall and 2-4 in the Lincoln Trail Conference.
WHS frosh-soph move to 13-1
The Wethersfield frosh-soph team is making some noise of their own. In the prelim game, the Lady Geese defeated Knoxville 47-36 and are now 13-1 on the season.
Wethersfield had a lead of 36-19 at the half. The guard tandem of Emelia Escareno and Lana Scott combined to score the entirety of Wethersfield’s 36 points (Escareno had 21 and Scott tallied 15 points).
The Lady Geese outscored the Blue Bullets 11-9 in the second half to earn the win.
Escareno finished with a game-high 23 points and Scott followed with 22 on the night.
Adrianna Craine led Knoxville with 11 points.
