Kindergarten students at Wethersfield Elementary School set up a lemonade stand in front of their school on Friday afternoon and got some unexpected customers.

Within a few minutes of opening their stand, Kewanee firefighters in ambulances and fire trucks, lights flashing and sirens sounding, rolled in for a glass of the refreshing drink. The price for a glass of lemonade was free, but donations were accepted with the funds raised going to help local families in need.

The students made the lemonade they sold and also set up the stand and ran the operation for 20-minute shifts, so that everyone would get a turn, said teacher Kyria Eastman. Eastman and teacher Shelley Gomez planned the event as part of their end-of-the- school-year “ABC Countdown.” Friday’s letter was “L for lemonade.”
