Drivers in Kewanee quickly learned to watch their speed during July, the month that the Kewanee Police Department, in conjunction with state and county law enforcement agencies, conducted a traffic safety campaign.
On some days, the police blotter contained the names of at least 30 drivers ticketed for speeding, and Police Chief Stephen Kijanowski released the effort’s final numbers on Friday.
During the campaign, a news release stated, “the Kewanee Police Department issued 92 speeding citations, one citation for an equipment violation and one citation for operating a motor vehicle with a revoked driver’s license.”
The effort was conducted throughout the state in order to reduce highway fatalities. The July campaign was funded by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT).
