When the second full day of school was dismissed at Kewanee High School on Friday, KHS students had a pleasant surprise as they walked out the doors.

Students were welcomed back to KHS with ice cream from the school administrators, faculty, and staff.

Beach music played in the background as students received their ice cream to celebrate the start of the 2024-25 school year.

Amanda Tidwell, KHS principal, noted that this KHS tradition was started in 2003, 21 years ago, when Mike Kirkham was principal. It is now an event that everyone looks forward to, she said.
