On Friday June 2, Kewanee High School held its own version of the “NFL Combine” to start off the summer training season.

The Kewanee Football Coaching Staff helped to organize the skills and assessment tests, but it was all hands on deck for the event. The majority of the KHS Coaching Staff- fall, winter and spring coaches- were in attendance to help put on an “Athletic Skills and Agility Assessment” for the Kewanee Athletes. Even the KHS Band Director, Alex Binek, supervised a testing station.

Just about 100 athletes took part in the skill testing. The athletes were tested in vertical jump, L-cone run, broad jump, push ups, 10-yard run time, pull ups, 5-10-5 shuttle run, 40-yard dash, bench press, three-cone drill, timed plank and grip test.

The goal was for the athletes to find their starting point in their physical fitness and to test each individual’s athleticism in order to give the athletes an idea of what they need to work on over the summer to improve their performance.

Tim Atwell, KHS athletic director, and the athletic department thanked all of the athletes who came out and participated and everyone who gave up their time to help make this event a success.
