A win and a loss for KHS frosh

The Kewanee freshman boys basketball team got the season rolling with a 56-15 win over Rock Falls.

Cris Crowe led the team with 18 points, followed by Jacob Coombes with 12, Manuel Arjon with 10, and Alex Ramos with 7.

“The team played great for their first time playing in Brockman Gymnasium,” said Coach Trenton Terry. “A lot of credit goes to our defense, forcing a lot of turnovers from a number of players, holding the team to 15 points, allowing no points in the fourth.”

The freshman then lost 62-28 to a tough Mahomet-Seymour team. The Boilers struggled to get into a groove offensively early on, losing the first half 37-12.

The team started the second half with a strong effort backed by Kane Minton scoring seven in the third quarter. They continued to struggle getting stops defensively, ultimately losing the game.

“It was a great look for our guys seeing some great competition this early in the season,” Terry said. “We hope to learn from this and adjust for our busy December of freshman games.”
