Kewanee High School’s soccer team moved into second place in conference with a 3-2 win Monday at Monmouth-Roseville.
“Very hard game for the Boilermakers; but we brought home the victory,” Coach Jesus Bermudez said.
Isidro Martinez opened the scoring for the Boilers with a shot from outside the box, then it was Alex Barron with a “beautiful” goal from outside the box, the coach said.
“Alex placed the ball on the very far post, so the goalie had no chance,” Bermudez said.
In the second half the Titans came out very aggressively and tied the game 2-2.
It was a corner kick that gave Kewanee the win. Kingston Peterson crossed the ball and in the air, Martinez scored with a header to give the Boilers the 3-2 victory.
“As far as I know, Kewanee has never been second place in conference; with this conference game, Kewanee is second for the first time,” Bermudez said.
