The Kewanee High School soccer team picked up wins at Oregon Saturday and at Illini Bluffs Tuesday.

The Boilers came from a 2-0 deficit against Oregon and won 5-3.

“The captains started talking with the team trying to react to the score,” Coach Jose Bermudez said.

“Kewanee started shooting to Oregon’s goal and at minute 27 of the first half Isidro Martinez took a beautiful shot far from the goalie and then the party started,” Bermudez said.

“The Boilermakers started dominating every single line of the field, not letting Oregon borrow the ball,” he added.

Cristian Cazares, the school’s all-time leading career scorer, added to his totals with two goals in the game. Martinez, Michael Bermudez and Tyson Currie each added a goal.

JJ Roginski had two assists. Also recording assists were Tony Moran, Cazares and Bermudez.

Goalie Dillon Price had seven saves.

The Boilers spoiled Illini Bluffs’ senior night Tuesday, defeating the hosts 3-0.

In what Bermudez described as a “very physical” game, Cazares opened the scoring with a goal, and then, “again using his abilities and speed to leave the defense behind, scored again.”

That brought his career total to 101 goals.

Cazares had to leave the game after he took a shot to his ribs. At that point, “JJ Roginski started using his experience and led the team,” Bermudez said. Roginski scored the final goal for the Boilers on a penalty kick.

Martinez and Roginski each had assists in the game, in which the Boilers took 16 shots. Price had two saves.
