On Tuesday, the KHS Varsity and JV golf teams traveled to Spring Valley to compete at Spring Creek golf course.
Kewanee competed against Hall and Erie-Prophetstown, finishing with a team score of 184. Senior Jack Anderson led the Kewanee scorers with a 43.
Other scorers for Kewanee include senior Owen Laue with a 45, freshman Lincoln Throneburg with a 47, sophomore Reid Nichols with a 49, freshman Easton Blake with a 53 and freshman James McGarvey with a 54.
This score earned Kewanee a third-place finish out of the three teams. Hall placed first with a 164, Erie-Prophetstown second with a 178, and Kewanee with a 184.
Additionally, Kewanee JV golf competed against both Hall and Erie-Prophetstown J.V. teams, finishing with a team score of 245. Sophomore Jaxon Dereu led J.V. scorers with a 56.
Other scorers for Kewanee’s JV team include senior Carver Neuleib with a 60, freshman Marshall Lewis with a 63, freshman Hunter Oldeen with a 66, senior Douglas Swearingen with a 71 and sophomore Liam Stevenson with a 77.
Kewanee finished third out of the three JV teams. Hall placed first with a 205, Erie-Prophetstown placed second with a 21, and Kewanee placed third with a 245.
This was Kewanee’s third match of the year and first JV match of the year. Kewanee improved from their score of 191 in their last match.
KHS head golf coach Brett VanDeWostine considered the action a strong away opener for the program.
“Spring Creek is a tough course because there is a lot of trouble around the course if you are not careful, while the hazards did affect us at times. This is a group that works hard in practice, and I expect our scores to keep dropping as the season progresses,” VanDeWostine said.
