Kewanee High School’s Lincoln Throneburg advanced to the Class 2A golf sectional after shooting 90 at Valley View Country Club, rural Cambridge.
He will compete on Monday at Mauh-Nah-Tee-See Club.
Eight teams competed in the regional for three team spots for sectionals and 10 individual spots for those not on the three advancing teams.
“Unfortunately, the team was not in the hunt for a team spot,” Coach Brett VanDeWostine said. KHS’s team score of 375 earned seventh place out of the eight teams.
“While we were not in the hunt for a team title, we were close to sending multiple individuals.”
There was a four-way tie for the ninth and tenth individual spots to head to sectionals, which occurred at a score of 92. Jack Anderson, Reid Nichols and Owen Laue were all within four strokes of being a part of the playoff.
“Although they did not make it to sectionals, they are super excited to see and hear how Lincoln will do at sectionals,” VanDeWostine said.
Individual scores were:
Owen Laue – 96
Reid Nichols – 95
Lincoln Throneburg – 90
James McGarvey – 102
Easton Blake – 103
Jack Anderson – 94
Team Score: 375
