The Kewanee High School soccer team won its sixth straight game Tuesday defeating DePue 2-1 in the semifinals of the conference tournament.

“The game was very physical, very well fought by both teams,” said Coach Jesus Bermudez.

Kewanee hit first with a strong kick from Alex Barron, as the goalie couldn’t hold the ball and the ball went trough his hands, the coach said.

DePue, started pushing and tied the scored before the end of first half, so the halftime score was 1-1.

“The second half the game was still very physical, but Kewanee was encountering the most chances to score that our players couldn’t finish,” Bermudez said. “But Chance DeSplinter came in as a sub and the game changed. The way Chance came in was with a very contagious attitude.”

Kewanee controlled the game for the last 20 minutes, he added, then DeSplinter gave Isidro Martinez a “beautiful pass,” Martinez was one on one with the goalie and scored, putting the final score at 2-1 Kewanee.

On Thursday Kewanee will play in the final against Mendota at 6 p.m.
