Shoppers visiting the Kewanee Walmart may have noticed the store is undergoing a transformation.
According to its Facebook page, the retailer is remodeling to create a more improved shopping experience. The garden center is currently blocked from view by tarps.

Inside, shoppers entering on the grocery side will notice the arcade area near the entrance is walled off. Employees say the seldom‑used space may soon become a Dunkin’ Donuts coffee shop, though Walmart management has not confirmed the addition and inquiries about the Kewanee remodel were directed to the corporate website.
Dunkin’ Donuts, a national chain with more than 10,000 locations, offers coffee, donuts, breakfast sandwiches and other beverages. Smaller kiosk locations inside larger retail outlets typically feature a streamlined menu with hot and iced coffee, espresso drinks, donuts, Munchkins, muffins and breakfast sandwiches.
During the renovation, the local retailer announced that it will have temporary positions available starting this month though August. The pay starts at $16.50 an hour. Over the last several weeks, the store has also begun clearance on many items including fabric.
The Kewanee project is part of Walmart’s plan to remodel more than 650 supercenters and neighborhood markets nationwide. Other Illinois stores undergoing upgrades include those in Carbondale, Decatur and East Peoria.
Reports indicate the improvements may include fresh paint, updated flooring, modernized restrooms and LED lighting. A completion date has not been announced.
