Kewanee School District 229, in partnership with the Federal Lunch and Breakfast Program, will once again provide free breakfast and lunch for any child under age 18, or up to 21 if disabled.
Kewanee School District #229 participates in multiple state and federally funded food programs throughout the year. During the school year, the district runs a program called the Community Eligibility Provision Program (CEP). The CEP allows districts to offer free breakfast and lunch daily to all students, no matter their family’s income level.
Each summer Kewanee School District #229 has a summer school program at many of the school locations. During summer school, the district runs a program called Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). The SFSP provides both breakfast and lunch to individuals under the age of 18 free of charge. The SFSP are considered open sites and allow meals to be served to students in the summer school program as well as area community members under the age of 18. Meals are required to be consumed on site and cannot be taken to go. Meals are not delivered by the district.
