At 8:07 a.m Saturday, June 3, Kewanee Park District Executive Director Andrew Dwyer thanked the people responsible for making the annual kid’s fishing rodeo a success.

Bobby Oldeen and the Oldeen family were at the top of that list. The Oldeens have helped to fund the event for years. Dwyer also expressed gratitude to Joe DeSmit and his blue-shirted volunteers who measured the day’s catches.

Prizes were awarded for the largest catch; the smallest catch and a special prize was given out to anyone who snagged one of the five albino catfish released into the pond on Thursday.

Dwyer also acknowledged Walmart for donating two bicycles. Numerous other businesses that Dwyer said would be listed on the park district website contributed door prizes that were drawn throughout the morning.

After Dwyer finished the announcement, an alarm was sounded, and poles were dropped into the pond.
