The Kewanee Boilermakers traveled to Prophetstown Saturday and dropped their season opener to Erie-Prophetstown, 29-6.

The game had been postponed to Saturday due to Friday night’s thunderstorms in the Prophetstown area.

The home team took at 16-0 halftime lead on a field goal and a five-yard run by junior Evan Steimle and a 31-yard pass play from Keegan Winckler to Connor Keegan.

Early in the third quarter sophomore Ace LaFollette scored on a 94-yard run. But a few minutes later, Winckler responded with a six-yard scoring run to make 22-6 Erie-Prophetstown.

Winckler rounded out the scoring midway through the fourth quarter with a four-yard touchdown run.

Junior Isaiah Ince was 12 for 16 passing for 74 yards for Kewanee. Sophomore Lain Taylor was 2 for 6 for 39 yards.

The host team picked off three Kewanee passes.

Chris Crowe led five Kewanee pass receivers with 78 yards on six receptions.

Senior Airies Simmons was Kewanee’s leading defender with seven tackles and three assists.

LaFollette led Kewanee ballcarriers with 108 yards on 15 carries. The Boilers totaled 145 yards on the ground.

For Erie-Prophetstown, Winckler totaled 82 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries.. Tristan Hovey was the team’s leading rusher with 91 yards on 16 carries.
