A group of Kewanee merchants will come together this weekend to encourage residents to shop local and shop small during a three-day Small Business Crawl sponsored by Farmers Insurance, set for Friday through Sunday, Dec. 5–7.
Shoppers are invited to stop in at participating stores, collect a punch on a card provided at each location, and enter the completed card into a drawing. The crawl highlights the variety of small businesses in the community and underscores the importance of supporting local merchants during the holiday season.
Participating businesses include Coco’s Coffee Shop, Empire Bookshop, Blissful Branch Boutique, Blooms by Heartfelt, Johnson’s Hub, Jessie’s Closet, Good’s Furniture, Country Morning Coffee, HRD Tack Shop Trailer (located in the Good’s parking lot), Breedlove’s Sporting Goods and Prairie Chicken Haus.
Organizers say the event is designed to showcase the unique products and services offered by small businesses, which play a vital role in strengthening the local economy. Shopping small keeps dollars in the community, supports jobs and helps maintain the character of Kewanee’s business district.
“Every purchase at a local shop makes a difference,” said Mark Mikenas, director of the Kewanee Chamber of Commerce. “This crawl is a fun way to discover new businesses, revisit favorites and show support for the entrepreneurs who keep our community thriving.”
