Monday, Kewanee played the first of two games against Mendota and won 11-6 at Mendota. 

Senior Colson Welgat got the start and he threw three innings allowing five earned runs, with seven walks and five strikeouts. Down 4-1, the Boilers put up a huge seven-run top of the third to take the lead by four runs and win the game. 

Freshman Ace LaFollette led the team with three RBIs while seniors Brayden Conley and Lincon Mason each had two hits with an RBI. Junior Logan Peed threw four innings in relief shutting down the Trojans allowing one hit and striking out three.

The second game of the series was played on Thursday in Kewanee, and the Boilermakers won 10-0. 

Senior Landon Sheets was on the mound and he threw a complete six of six innings for Kewanee. Sheets allowed only four hits and three walks while striking out seven on the day. 

The Boiler offense was firing all game, led by Conley, who went two for two at the plate with a double, a walk and two RBIs.

The Boilers hosted Rock Island on Tuesday and lost 24-9. 

The Boiler offense held for the first three innings, down only 11-9 going into the fourth, but that was where the game shifted and Rock Island ran away. 

Kewanee used six pitchers through six innings of play. Offensively, Sheets and Welgat each had two hits and an RBI.

The varsity team ended the week with a narrow 3-2 loss to Rockridge on Friday. 

Mason took the bump for the Boilers and threw five innings allowing two runs, but only one earned run, on four hits. Peed relieved Mason, throwing two innings, allowing only one unearned run and no hits while striking out three. 

Mason led the offense with two hits, and Welgat had a hit and a RBI.

JV Drops 2 More Games

The JV team only played non-conference games last week. 

On Tuesday, they traveled to Rock Island, where they lost 11-5. Sophomore Isaiah Ince pitched five innings and allowed only three earned runs on the day. Sophomore Kamdyn Hicks and Ince led the offense with a hit and a RBI each. 

Kewanee hosted Rockridge on Friday and lost 14-0. Despite the Boilers only trailing by two after four innings of play, Rockridge eventually found their rhythm, scoring six in each of the last two innings. 

Sophomores Jackson Price and Ince, as well as freshman Reid Nichols, each got a hit.
