Kasey Mitchell

The City Council is set to appoint Kasey Mitchell as Kewanee’s first female city manager.

The agenda for Monday’s council meeting includes appointment of Mitchell to the manager position.

Mitchell, who has been the city clerk for several years, was named city manager pro tem last fall, after the council dismissed Gary Bradley as manager.

Mayor Gary Moore said Mitchell has a college degree in finance and has taken “a lot of different training” in city administration.

Like former city managers John Kolata and Kip Spear, Mitchell grew up in Kewanee.

The council had hired the employment firm, MGT, to provide city manager applicants. The city used the same firm last year to find and hire Chris Berry as the city’s public works director.

MGT offered six candidates, which the council narrowed down to three finalists before selecting Mitchell.
